a bit of thought from a guy and his girl, "Standing Before the Face of God" …

Hey, What’s Up?!

Ohhh wow, talk about a blogging hiatus!  I haven’t posted in about 2 months, if you are (were) a semi-regular reader, sorry about that.  It’s been crazy these past 2 months, primarily due to starting the new job.  Changing your routine, wow, rough!  I’m a creature of habit and the commute and new times to wake up and go to bed all just threw me off for a solid 3 weeks (at least).  Then to top that off, I’ve been leading a small group each week at church and I’ve been working for about the past 4 month’s on the Impact Christian Church’s (formerly West Hills Christian Church) new website.  We just released it this past week, so the past 2 months have been pretty crazy working on that also (plus creating a Facebook page to integrate w/ the site).  So, just those 3 things alone have threw me off, just didn’t give me much time to post anything here.

So anyways, getting more relevant to today, Easter is tomorrow….my birthday also – turning the big 2-5 (now I can rent a car w/out paying extra for insurance…..the only age I can look forward to now is retirement!).  So being Easter, my buddy Justin flew into town for the holiday and I was able to hang out w/ him.  He also just got back to the States from visiting his girlfriend Carley in Europe – Florence, Italy to be exact.  Therefore, makes me recall my time in Rome, going to the Papal Mass on Easter Sunday 2006 – pics here (click on “Easter at St. Peter’s”).  Well anyways, Justin & Carley also got me a bottle of vino Italiano and gave it to me today!  I’m pretty stoked about that, I enjoy a good red wine.  It’s a 2006 “Rosso di Montalcino” and comes from/near the city of Montalcino in the Tuscany region.  I’m no wine connoisseur (yet?) but what I’d like to do when I get my own place is to start collecting.  I’d like to buy a wine rack and find a cool place in the house to keep it and when I travel somewhere, stop at a local winery or someplace I can buy the local wine and buy a bottle or 2 and just try different wines from across the country.  So, diverting back from my tangent…..thanks Justin & Carley, can’t wait to try the “Rosso di Montalcino”!

Some other fun facts, heading to Lake Tahoe this summer w/ a few buddies from high school.  This should be a sweet week!  There’s 5 of us, we got a nice house rented already and we plan on doing some boating, water skiing, tubing, all that outdoor kind of stuff….right up my alley!

I’m also still debating on a trip the first week of May to Las Vegas.  My friend is turning 21 and her uncle is a Manager at the Rio and able to get us a nice hotel deal, so a few friends are going down for a long weekend.  I have that Friday off, so I’m debating whether or not to spend the money on the airfare to go still.  I’d primarily like to go and just check it all out.  Not sure Vegas is really for me in general, but I do think it’d be something pretty wild to at least check out for 2-3 days.  So we’ll see about that.  If I do go, there will sure be pictures up on the site!

So, with those 2 trips in mind, I think I only have 1 more I’m considering also.  I’d like to visit my cousin down in St. Petersburg, Florida during one of my 3 day weekends this summer.  We’ll more than likely hit up a baseball game and he’ll just show me around the area.  It should be a nice mid-summer break!

Well,  that’s what I’ve been up to and what I look forward to doing this summer, all outside of the 2 hockey leagues, 2 softball leagues, leading a small group at church, mountain biking, and all the golfing I plan on doing this summer!  Looks like it could be shaping up to be a quality summer…..and it’s only April 3rd (and my birthday in 2 hours!)!

The Olympics, no singular event as large and heralded in the world.  And they start this Friday, I’m stoked to say the least!  After attending the Olympics myself in Torino, Italy in 2006, it’s safe to say I’m addicted.  I watched the 2008 Summer Olympics with great interest and the Winter Games, my favorite of the 2, really have me ready again.  Unfortunately, during the 2006 Olympics, because I was studying in Italy, I could only watch highlights online.  This time around though, I plan on watching as many events as I can!

Needless to say, I’m really anticipating the hockey games.  Here’s the schedule I’ll be following – Hockey Schedule .  Here in Pittsburgh, we have a few key athletes to follow, obviously one being Sidney Crosby for the Canadians.  Obviously, I’ll be rooting for Team U-S-A, but after that, I’ll be fun to also hope to see some good Canadian hockey in Canada!  The Canadians are so pumped for Sid, this Tim Hortons video makes me even jealous of their hockey heritage:

Now, Sid’s not the only hockey star to follow.  Brooks Orpik (USA), Ryan Malone – Pittsburgh native! (USA), Sergei Gonchar (Russia), and Evgeni Malkin (Russia),  will all be there too!  But one new hockey player going, that many don’t know about quite yet, is Robert Morris University alumni goaltender Brianne McLaughlin (stats)!  She’s an Ohio native, but played her entire college career at RMU and is also the NCAA record holder for career saves!  Talk about cool, check out the billboard below (courtesy of Robert Morris on Facebook):
