If you haven’t heard, Consol Energy has earned the naming rights for the Pittsburgh Penguins new arena, a 21 year lease, at an undisclosed amount of money. The name, if you didn’t notice the above image, will be the “Console Energy Center.”

Consol Energy now will have the naming rights of 2 major stadiums in the Pittsburgh Region, the other being the home to the Washington Wild Things – “Consol Energy Park” – in Washington, PA.

I don’t think it’s a bad name, happy to see a major Western PA business get the nod, just like Heinz & PNC.

A few other possible names included:

• PPG Place
• The UPM-Center
• The Iron City Ice Bar
• The Giant Eagle’s Nest
• Equitable Gas Gardens
