Wow, that is really goofy Mike! Do you have the same kernel that they referred to in that forum? If you don't have the latest, maybe trying that? At this point....I'm shooting in the dark.

Glad though that you could figure out what is going on! Take care & thanks for posting back!

Did finally figure out what (but not why) is going on. I am dual-booting Ubuntu 9.10 w/ WIndows XP on the 1000HE. If you do a cold start (power off) and boot into Ubuntu, I get sound. If I'm running XP and restart into Ubuntu, no sound.

Saw this behavior listed elsewhere

<a href="http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=71106" rel="nofollow">http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=71106</a>

Not sure why this is happening, but will just remember to do cold start to use Ubuntu.

Hi Suhel, I believe you're referring to the Super Hybrid Engine? I haven't tried this yet, but I'm going to try, it's called EEE-Control, here are 2 links about it:

I agree Ian, Windows 7 is sharp. To my surprise, it runs terrificly on my EEE. Graphics are great, speed is good, etc. I'll have to do the review on my EEE running Windows 7 on my other partition soon. I had to install new ACPI drivers for Windows 7, not as easy of a setup as w/ UNR, but fairly simple enough for even the non-techies out there.

Hope all is well!

Excuse me, do you know how to make the CPU scaling option work? I don't even know if it should be called "cpu scaling", it's the cpu modes you usually go through by pressing FN and then the spacebar on the 1000 HE. Please help me out. Thanks!

Some day... when I actually get a Netbook, I'm definitely giving the UNR a whirl. Although Windows 7 is a damn nice OS. But Karmic is so slick looking and actually "feels" good to use. It's the first desktop Linux release that has actually been really tight in my opinion. That hundred paper cuts project has done wonders for user interface and usability.

Did a clean install of 9.04 to start, and had issues with sound (would be there, then when you reboot it would disappear). Did google around and it appears that this is a reported bug to Ubuntu.

Will try those links you suggested; other than the sound issue, the Ubuntu seems great (and 9.10 a visual improvement over 9.04).
